has anyone opened up the T2 motor assemble

I have a T2 with a bad drive motor (the round one). it looks like the the top of each cylinder should screw off like a jar lid, the outer edge is even knurld for a better grip. but I've tried a strap wrench on it and neither seems like they want to give. I just figured I'd open it up and check before ordering a new motor, maybe save myself $350.00. any help would be appreciated.
