Unlikely both motors burned

Hi Bob,
While possible, both motors burning at the same time is unlikely.
You have a broke wire that makes contact when you shake it.
The wire is either in the cable or the terminal well. If in the terminal well (on the drivemotor) you will see the broken wire as soon as you dig out the putty.
