Odd Dolphin Diagnostic behavior

by Lou markarian

Hi,
After running, cleaning and dropping the Dolphin Diagnostic back into the pool, it wouldn't start up. I pulled it out and turned it on and could hear the power click on, but nothing. So I picked it up and turned it on it's corded side and the drive started to move. ( drive only, no pump). I thought it was a loose cord so I wiggled it and nothing. I picked it up again turned it upside down, nothing. It will only run when it's turned on the corded side, any other angle and it stops.
Have you ever come across this problem before?

Lou

figured it out
by: Anonymous

I opened up the sealed motor/drive unit and there was 2" of water in it, so it looks like either the O ring failed or the impeller or drive motor seal failed and shorted the circuit board.
I would of figured that a better seal would of been developed to prevent this from happening, considering the cost of one of these units.
And yes, the warranty is up.
I would advise taking units apart. checking o rings and re sealing them to prevent this from happening.

Power Cable?
by: Anonymous

Sounds like a broken wire in the power cable. You can unplug the cable at the motor housing and do a continuity check of each wire with a multimeter. If this is not the problem then a trip to an authorized repair shop would be next.
