Im not sure if its a poor design. The cable flexes on the handle when the robot floats along the top. I have repaired my Aquabot many times. Most times its by the flex point. Plus over the years the wiring becomes brittle. You could buy some type of hook to pull robot out of water but eventually the cable will break internally at the flex point.
